The
Department of Botany was established in 1972. The Department offers an
undergraduate programme, BSc Botany with Zoology and Chemistry as complementary
subjects. The elective paper is ‘Agribusiness’ which is included in the sixth
semester. The department also offers complementary courses for students of
Zoology stream. An open course 'Agribased microenterprises' is offered for
students of all streams. The basic facilities of the department include well
equipped, modern undergraduate laboratory, library, herbarium, smart class room
and computer lab. Botanical garden and Herbal garden is maintained in
connection with biodiversity conservation perspective. Faculty members are
actively engaged in research activities and the department regularly conducts
seminars, workshops etc. to keep pace with modern trends in plant science. Regular
PTA meeting and alumni meeting is conducted and meritorious students in each
batch is felicitated with an endowment award.
